U.S. MUAY THAI TALENT SEARCH TO BE HELD FOR SELECTION OF TEAM USA

BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (February 2nd, 2012)

The Muay Thai Alliance of Texas announced the date and host city of this year's United States Muay Thai Talent Search.

The Talent Search meant to cultivate, develop, and identify up and coming talent from throughout the United States for purposes of selecting athletes to the U.S. National Team that will be competing during the events scheduled for March 24th and March 31st in Veracruz and Villahermosa, Mexico.

Date: Saturday, March 3rd, 2012

Place: City of Brownsville Boxing Complex

Address: 1338 E 8th St, Brownsville, Texas 78520

Weigh-In: 10 am

Start: 12 noon

A total of fourteen athletes will be selected to fill the "Team A" and "Team B" rosters. "Team A" will be comprised of athletes with 6 or more fights. "Team B" will be comprised of athletes with 5 or less fights.

Equipment Needed: Mouthpiece, Shinguards, Headguard, Handwraps, 10 oz. or 12 oz. boxing gloves (not bag gloves!)

Trunks: MUAY THAI SHORTS STRICTLY REQUIRED!

Men: Athletic cups/supporters

Women: Chest protector

Duration of Sessions: 3 x 3 minute rounds, 1 minute rest period

Style: Muay Thai style strikes, sweeps, clinching, and throws are allowed (exceptions below). Punches and kicks to the head, legs, and body are allowed. Knees to the legs and body are allowed.

NOT ALLOWED:

1. Elbow and knee strikes to the head and face.

2. Wrestling, judo, or MMA-type grappling or choking techniques.

3. Strikes to the groin, throat, back of the head, and spine.

Specifics will be covered with coaches and fighters on the day of the event.
